A Teacher and a King

This was the closing prayer poem from my sermon Rightly Handling the Word of Truth. October 16, 2022. First Chinese Baptist Church, Walnut, California.

A Teacher and a King

What a privilege it is

To have the word of God!

It softens hardened hearts,

Renews our mind and thoughts.

Like a tree that’s planted

By living water streams,

The man who loves the law

Is blessed, unwavering.

It’s living and it’s active,

And sharper than a sword.

It leads us when we stray –

And guides us back on course.

Reflecting like a mirror,

It shows us of our sin.

Revealing and exposing

The wickedness within.

But if we’re found despairing

With broken hearts, contrite –

His word is reassuring:

Our God will not despise.

You’ll find a risen savior,

A teacher and a king.

His words are everlasting:

Children, taste and see!
