One Year on Substack

What I've Learned from Writing

Today marks my one-year anniversary of writing on Substack!

I just wanted to say thank you for following along and taking the time to read what I write. This whole Substack has always been an experiment and an exercise for me. I’ve found it motivating, challenging, and fun to write for an audience on a daily basis.

By writing every day in an effort to share something of spiritual value, I’ve become more aware of the work God is doing in my life, in the lives of others, and in the world. My sermon writing has been sharpened, and I believe my personal stories and illustrations have improved as well.

More than anything, this year has reminded me that paying attention is part of the calling.

Through the stories we tell, the songs we sing, and the words we write, I’ve always been searching for the meaning behind it all. God is always at work, and although we don’t always understand the meaning, it is still worth sharing.

Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. (John 21:25)
