Disciplines of Devotion

TGC’s Disciplines of Devotion series offers excellent books to help women cultivate a life of devotion to the Lord by building simple, biblical practices into their daily routines. Each book in the series focuses on a specific spiritual discipline, making it easy to approach and apply one practice at a time.

Courtney Reissig’s volume on prayer highlights the blessings of prayer while also offering practical tips, but I was most encouraged to read that, through prayer, we are bound together with our brothers and sisters in the Lord. Prayer is a powerful means of connecting us with one another and with the Lord.

Books for Busy Schedules

Cassie Achermann’s volume on fasting explains both the how and the why of fasting, and it motivated me to fast in order to create space in our lives and hearts and to sharpen our affections for the Lord. Megan Hill’s volume on Sabbath rest showed me how to truly rest in the Lord, prioritizing time with Christ and viewing every moment as an opportunity to know Him more.

While written by and for women, I still found these books to be encouraging, helpful, and accessible. What I most appreciate about them is that they are brief and practical. You can read each one in a single sitting, and they are small enough to carry with you and engage with throughout the day. Even with the busiest of schedules, these books will prove to be a blessing.

I received a media copy of Disciplines of Devotion (Amazon) and this is my honest review.
