The Language of Rivers and Stars

In The Language of Rivers and Stars, Seth Lewis beautifully explores how nature proclaims the glory of God. This book invites readers to experience the wonder of creation through the lens of Scripture, helping us hear God’s voice in the world he has made.

Grounding and Uplifting

Part One explains how all of creation testifies to its Creator, while Part Two encourages us to listen more attentively and respond faithfully. Lewis combines theology and observation in a way that both grounds and inspires.

One of the highlights for me was the idea that the sky is God’s natural newsfeed. In times of discouragement or despair, we can look up and be overwhelmed—not by our circumstances, but by God’s glory. The vastness of the heavens reminds us that we are small, and he is not.

The Perfect Summer Read

I was especially moved by the chapter on time. Lewis shows how time itself can be both a test and a tool—revealing God’s patience and shaping those same qualities in us. I had never thought of time as part of the natural world in this way before. It gives us a divine context through which faith, courage, and endurance are formed. To be finite beings, living within a timeline, is itself a gift meant to glorify God. Each day is a unique opportunity to join in his kingdom work.

This is a perfect summer read—especially if you’re looking to put down your phone, step outside, and gain a fresh perspective. Deeply theological and profoundly beautiful, The Language of Rivers and Stars will open your eyes to the wonder of creation and draw your heart to worship our Maker.
