The Pursuit of God

How can you chase after Christ in a fresh and engaging way? In this illustrated edition of The Pursuit of God, Moody Publishers presents A. W. Tozer’s classic designed for discovery, reflection, and sharing.

Exciting and Enjoyable

Created to be a 31-day experience, this 450-page book has Tozer’s text alongside graphic images. It is visually appealing, with bold typography and strong black/white contrasts. I have never seen anything like it, and it an exciting way to enjoy an old favorite.

I appreciated two related features about this book. First, the text is broken into chunks, so your eyes are able to take in smaller sections at a time. It allowed me to dwell on the words, focus on the phrases, and see connections more clearly. Second, the blocked text allows for ample white space throughout the book, serving as an area to journal and jot down ideas. This book was made for interaction and engagement.

Treasuring Christ Above All

I was most moved by Tozer’s chapters on “The Tyranny of Things” and “The Joy of Possessing Nothing.” I was reminded that Christ calls us to sacrificial living. In fact, he calls us to be living sacrifices. Our true treasures are inward and eternal. The minimal feel and graphic aesthetic of this book helped reinforce this lesson, and I felt the freedom that can come with treasuring Christ above all.

Tozer helped me see John 1: 1-5 in a new light with his chapter on “God’s Creative Voice.” I love books and the written word. It’s my favorite way of communication. But what this section helped me see was that God fills the world with his speaking voice. He is alive and free and sovereign to speak as he wills in this world.

Memorable and Meaningful

Towards the end of the book, Tozer shares his insight regarding the Rest of Self-Forgetfulness. He connects the meekness of children to the meekness of Christ, and how we are to be like both as we pursue our sanctification. It is a challenging and convincing call.

This book will unlock the riches of Tozer’s wisdom, and help you find the treasure of Jesus. It will give you a fresh experience in the pursuit of God, one that is memorable and meaningful.
