Words of the Resurrected

How can we remain in Christ after his resurrection? In Words of the Resurrected, Robert J. Nash brings meditations for Easter and beyond.

With 10 chapters and just under 150 pages, this excellent book is filled with the hope of Christ. Nash presents the essential truths that Jesus said to his followers after he rose from the grave. It is an fascinating and worshipful study.

Issues of the Heart

Nash opens with Christ’s Word to the Grieving, and it is clear that this book is not scared to speak to issues of the heart. We encounter a personal God who knows why you weep and what you seek. Nash writes with warmth, bringing us the Bible and sharing illustrations and anecdotes along the way.

I was most interested in Chapter 5 to read of Christ’s Word to the Doubting. I saw how God remains patient with us, and Nash points out the reality that faith and doubt can coexist. While God is the founder of our faith, we are still responsible for working through our questions, doubts, and unbelief. I was moved to pray for those who struggle, and to come alongside to educate and encourage those whom God has given to my care.

Cling to Christ

I was most challenged in Chapter 8 to read of Christ’s Word to Wait. Nash gives biblical evidence that God’s people had to wait for the good that God designed. Nash gives a strong word to those who struggle to wait: “Ruminating on Christ’s self-sacrificial love empowers us to wait.” We can pray and persevere, seeking to obey God’s command for us to wait for him and the peace, joy, and love he brings.

The book ends by looking at Christ’s power and his blessing. Interestingly, Nash connects Christ’s Word of power to our ability to evangelize. Christ’s mission carries all the way from the apostles to us today. And receiving the blessing of Christ is related to sharing and telling it to others. This book will motivate you to cling to the Christ even after his resurrection. He has the words of eternal life. Where else will we go?
