I Am the Good Shepherd

Two Blessings of Belonging to Jesus

Aaron Lee | February 6, 2026 | FCBCW Awana | John 10:12-15

Opening Question

Do you have any pets?

Introduction

Jesus calls himself the Good Shepherd – and one thing about the shepherd is that he owns the sheep. Here are two blessings that come with belonging to Jesus:

1. Known

14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; (John 10:14)

Jesus knows us in an intimate way like Father and Son. If you are happy or sad, sick or suffering, Jesus sees and knows and understands.

2. Loved

12 He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13 He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. (John 10:12-13)

Shepherding is not just a job for Jesus. He has a personal relationship with us. Jesus will not leave us. He will care for and protect us.

Gospel

and I lay down my life for the sheep (John 10:15)

Jesus’ death on the cross makes sure we will belong to him forever.

Big Idea

Jesus is the Good Shepherd who knows and loves those who belong to Him.

Conclusion

We are not pets. We are a part of God’s family!
