I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life

Three Words of Advice for Adulting.

“Adulting” has been the hardest thing I’ve done in my life. Becoming an adult and all of the pressure that comes with being put together and making it are overwhelming. The weight of the world lies heavily on my shoulders. What can young Christians do to prepare for adulthood? Here are three words of advice for adulting.

1. The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” – Psalm 14:1

To remember God will go a long way in getting on the right track. To forget about God is to be a fool. And while you can say you believe and have all of the outward appearances, your heart will show if you truly see him. You can have it all together and still be a fraud if you don’t recognize the existence of God.

2. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge. – Proverbs 1:7

It’s one thing to acknowledge God, but to live in fear of him is on a whole different level. Living in fear of God means to have his presence impact your life. It influences your decisions and desires. It’s the driving force behind your life. You can be an educated adult, but wisdom comes from knowing God.

3. I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. – John 14:6

To know and love the Son of God is the only path to true maturity. Under his rule and reign, everything is in their proper place. You can view the world with clarity. You can see and find true meaning. There is purpose and beauty in the world. To be truly alive is to die to yourself and come alive in Christ.

Children of God

Maybe “adulting” is not the hardest thing I’ve done in my life. Following Jesus is the hardest. But on a different level, it’s also the easiest. His yoke is easy and his burden is light. Your life does not have to be defined by money and “making it.” The accomplishments and accolades of adulthood diminish with the proper perspective. When your identity and adulthood rests in Christ – you can be free and find out what it means to truly be a child of God.
