Ten Ways to Pray for Your Preacher

I’m preaching my first youth sermon this Sunday. When thinking about my own personal prayer requests, I thought it would be helpful to share some so you can pray for me. Here are ten ways you can pray for your preacher.

Before Preaching

1. Openness: Pray that I receive God’s Word in my own heart and not just study for knowledge.

2. Love: Pray that I create and craft my sermon out of a genuine care for God’s people.

3. Trust: Pray that I believe God’s Word will not return empty.

While Preaching

4. Accuracy: Pray that I stick to the text and say what it says.

5. Boldness: Pray that I am brave and confident in the pulpit.

6. Clarity: Pray that my verbal communication is not cloudy or confusing.

After Preaching

7. Humility: Pray that I am not prideful from public speaking.

8. Encouragement: Pray that I am not discouraged in my shortcomings.

9. Confidence: Pray that I place my faith in God who does the work and gives spiritual growth.

Throughout

10. God’s Glory: The process of planning, preparing, and preaching a sermon takes time. Pray that God is glorified in it all.

Last week I shared How Will They Hear? -- a personal ministry announcement about learning what it means to preach. These articles were first shared in my newsletter.
