Brave Faith for Hard Things
In Brave Faith for Hard Things, Michele Howe writes a devotional on finding sacred purpose in ordinary suffering. This book will guide you through life’s difficult journeys—the paths that are hard to navigate and the roads that are rough terrain. Yet God gives us grace and hope for every step.
Typical of Howe’s writing, the devotions are short and incredibly encouraging. With 30 chapters, you can easily read one each day during a difficult season.
I was especially encouraged by Howe’s reminder that life is always moving forward. With young children, I am constantly thinking about their future. I admit that I sometimes fear. Howe writes that while we may know intellectually that God is for us, we need that truth to sink deep into our souls. We should know that we know. She challenges us to move forward in prayer and to live fearlessly, trusting God as we continue on.
Walk with God
One of the things I appreciate most about Howe is her ability to provide concrete applications. She encourages readers to find hope in God’s past provision by remembering how present and faithful He has been. She then points readers to God’s present provision, calling them to converse with Him in prayer and allow His holy presence to sanctify their hearts. Finally, she encourages readers to hope in God’s future provision by thanking Him, praying for strength, and choosing to trust Him.
Other chapters that resonated with me challenged readers to stop defining failure as a bad thing and instead see difficulties as opportunities for God to prove Himself faithful. Each chapter includes a passage of Scripture, a prayer, and application questions.
Brave Faith for Hard Things will strengthen your faith and encourage you to walk with God through life’s hardships. You will discover that with Christ, His yoke is easy and His burden is light. If you are walking through a difficult season, God is present, faithful, and worthy of your trust.
