ESV Reformation Study Bible
The Reformation Study Bible is an extraordinary gift to the church and a faithful continuation of the legacy of the Reformers.
With sola Scriptura as its guiding principle, the contributors to the Reformation Study Bible stand firmly within the Reformed tradition. Through clear and compelling exposition, they lead the reader by emphasizing Reformed theology in the notes and commentary. Produced by Ligonier Ministries, R. C. Sproul served as general editor, alongside associate editors such as James Montgomery Boice, J. I. Packer, and others.
Authority and Sufficiency
I was particularly drawn to the topical articles that address key Reformed doctrines, including canonicity and inerrancy. I was also encouraged to see the inclusion of historic creeds, confessions, and catechisms, from the Apostles’ Creed to the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith. The embedded maps are excellent to reference as you read, and a robust concordance is also included.
This was one of the earliest study Bibles I owned as a young Christian, and it remains a dependable resource for personal devotion, lesson preparation, and sermon writing. I can approach it with confidence, knowing the commentary is rooted in the Reformed heritage. The Reformation Study Bible is a reliable and enduring work grounded in the authority and sufficiency of Scripture.
