Risen Motherhood (Deluxe Edition)

What does the gospel mean for moms? Written by sister-in-laws Emily Jensen and Laura Wifler, Risen Motherhood (Deluxe Edition) gives gospel hope for everyday moments.

By looking at motherhood through a gospel lens, this book is a testimony to how the gospel really does change everything. From the minutiae of motherhood (Ch. 7: The Gospel and Our Mundane Moments) to specific aspects of ourselves (Ch. 9: The Gospel and Our Postpartum Body Image), this book addresses a wide range of issues.

Everyday Moments of Motherhood

After explaining the Gospel and God’s purpose for motherhood, the bulk of the book applies the gospel to the everyday moments of motherhood. Each chapter uncovers what modern culture tries to message us, and combats it with the gospel. Jensen and Wifler are excellent at explaining how creation, fall, redemption, and consummation play out in each instance.

As a father, this book helped me see, think about, and understand the different struggles and heart issues of motherhood. My own heart was challenged as I saw my sin in succumbing to the views of the world and not trusting Christ totally with my children. But I was not discouraged – Jensen and Wifler write with theological insight and hopeful joy.

Christ Champions the Work and Worth of Mothers

The Deluxe Edition includes a new introduction, as well as three previously unpublished chapters: The Gospel and Our Fears, The Gospel and Our Time Spent at Home, and The Gospel and Our Income-Producing Work. I found these chapters to be fitting, especially as the ability or desire to work from home has increased on this side of the pandemic.

Fathers and husbands — this book is the perfect gift for Mother’s Day, a child’s birthday, or to mark a special occasion in the life of your wife. This book champions the work and worth of mothers while pointing them to the sufficiency of Christ and God’s grace in the gospel. I am inspired to do the same.
