The Message of the New Testament
In The Message of the New Testament, Mark Dever displays God’s promises kept. This outstanding book will help you enjoy and exalt the God of the Bible with a book-by-book overview of the New Testament.
Originally delivered as sermons, this book breaks down each New Testament book to show its major themes. As sermons, they read exceptionally well, since much of the New Testament was already directly addressed to the church. As a book, you get something different altogether: instead of spending time in just a few verses, you get to feast on an entire book. I enjoyed my time in the Gospels, gaining an even bigger picture of Christ’s life and work. I was sharpened by my time in the Epistles, examining these books from different angles. I was fascinated to see the big pictures of Acts and Revelation come to life.
God Still Speaks
I consider this book a modern classic that every preacher, teacher, and student of Scripture will find to be a treasure. It is clear that Dever knows how to handle the text—making it understandable yet deeply enjoyable. His pastoral insights are exceptional, giving the book a sense of urgency and practicality.
My big takeaway from this book is that the entire New Testament is needed today. God still speaks through his Word. Christ is King, and He is coming again soon. He keeps all of His promises.
