The Redeemed Man
Edited by Joel R. Beeke, Richard D. Phillips, and Paul M. Smalley, The Redeemed Man helps you see that every area of a redeemed man’s life is shaped by grace, with contributions from Conrad Mbewe, Sinclair B. Ferguson, Jason Helopoulos, Kevin DeYoung, and more.
Careers, Callings, and Vocations
Before reading this book, I already knew that my life was being consumed by work. This book helped me reorient and reprioritize—not to neglect work, but to put it in its proper place under God. Even more, this book reminded me that being a husband and being a father are vocations in themselves.
Having been married for 12 years now, this book helped me refocus my affections on my wife. I was especially moved to remember to cultivate emotional and physical connection in our marriage, making time to communicate and share.
As a busy father of three young children, this book helped me evaluate my leadership and encouraged me to press on. Discipling children involves both instruction and connection.
Grow in Grace
I was most encouraged by Beeke’s chapter on growing in family worship, where he says to aim for brevity. He encourages consistency, and I am motivated to continue these special times with my family.
I was most challenged by DeYoung’s chapter on serving in the church. He speaks of the magnanimous man—one who is eager to attempt great things and willing to endure great hardships.
A handbook. A guide. A manual for men who desire to be faithful men of God. Practical and pastoral, this book will help you go to work, lead your home, serve in church, and grow in grace for the glory of God.
