In When They Don’t Love Jesus, Renee Emerson and Will Dobbie share stories for children who love the lost. This book offers help and hope as it addresses common questions children have about the salvation of their friends and family members.
I was especially moved by the questions “How Can I Be Happy Without Them?”—which speaks to God’s promised comfort and presence—and “What About People Who Don’t Seem Able to Choose Jesus?”—which explores God’s love for children, the oppressed, and the vulnerable.
Clarity and Compassion
Alongside its short stories, the book provides prayers, discussion points, and Bible verses. The illustrations by Christa Seaman lend the book a soft, gentle, and calming feel.
This book came at just the right time, as my children have been asking me whether some of our extended family members know Jesus. I sometimes forget how heavily these questions can weigh on our children’s hearts, and this book helps address them with clarity and compassion.
