ESV Study Bible (Review, Westminster Bookstore)
When I wanted to get serious about Bible study, the ESV Study Bible had just been published. It was the perfect blend of beautiful physical design and the promise of digital accessibility. It has become what I consider the gold standard for study Bibles, and it introduced me to the world-class resource library of Crossway Publishing.
This is the first Bible I turn to when preparing a sermon, and the one I would choose if I could only have a single Bible for the rest of my life. After all these years, it remains my most trusted recommendation for anyone who wants to dive in and dig deep with the gift of God’s Word.
ESV Reformation Study Bible (Review, Westminster Bookstore)
The Reformation Study Bible is an extraordinary gift to the church and a faithful continuation of the legacy of the Reformers. With sola Scriptura as its guiding principle, the contributors to the Reformation Study Bible stand firmly within the Reformed tradition. Through clear and compelling exposition, they lead the reader by emphasizing Reformed theology in the notes and commentary. Produced by Ligonier Ministries, R. C. Sproul served as general editor, alongside associate editors such as James Montgomery Boice, J. I. Packer, and others.
This was one of the earliest study Bibles I owned as a young Christian, and it remains a dependable resource for personal devotion, lesson preparation, and sermon writing. I can approach it with confidence, knowing the commentary is rooted in the Reformed heritage. The Reformation Study Bible is a reliable and enduring work grounded in the authority and sufficiency of Scripture.
ESV Student Study Bible (Review, Westminster Bookstore)
The ESV Student Study Bible packs the essential features for an outstanding study of God’s Word. While the original ESV Study Bible has more comprehensive notes, the ESV Student Study Bible distills them to get to the point.
What makes this edition standout are the 900 “Did You Know?” facts and 120 Character Profiles. I find myself always reading these when I come across them on the page, and I will actively seek them out when I am doing my personal Bible study. The glossary and concordance are excellent. The well-written articles and full-colored maps are generous.
The One Story Bible: Tracing the Thread of Redemption Through God's Word (Review, Westminster Bookstore)
The One Story Bible traces the thread of redemption throughout God’s Word. This Bible will help you avoid losing the forest for the trees. It will help you find your way through God's Word.
This is a Bible you’ll want to read cover to cover. With over 900 notes by Pastor Greg Gilbert, it helps you see the big picture of Scripture—God’s redemptive plan from the very beginning and His sovereign hand over it all until the end.
CSB Life Counsel Bible, Hardcover: Practical Wisdom for All of Life (Review, Westminster Bookstore)
What most impressed me was how this Bible addressed a wide-range of tough topics and life issues. More than 150 articles written by respected Christian counselors are included. David Powlison writes on replacing suicidal thoughts with hope. Paul David Tripp gives advice on finding hope again in grief. Diane Langberg shares on the spiritual impact of sexual abuse. Michael R. Emlet considers Autism Spectrum Disorder and meeting challenges with hope.
Word studies are an expected feature from a study Bible, but this Bible places focuses on key words applicable to personal healing, growth, and counsel. Call out quotes are placed near each article to provide truth, hope, and encouragement for our daily lives.
ESV Bible with Creeds and Confessions (Review, Westminster Bookstore)
The ESV Bible with Creeds and Confessions is a welcomed addition to my study. It combines the excellent ESV Bible with 13 exceptional Creeds and Confessions from church history. Having them all housed in the same book is brilliant, and having the ESV Bible with them is a work of modern publishing beauty.
Introductions to each of the 13 creeds and confessions written by historian Chad Van Dixhoorn. The 13 Creeds and Confessions are: Apostle’s Creed (ca. 200-400), Nicene Creed (325), Athanasian Creed (381), Chalcedonian Definition (451), Augsburg Confession (1530), Belgic Confession (1561), Articles of Religion (1563), Canons of Dort (1618-1619), Westminster Confession (1646), London Baptist Confession (1689), Heidelberg Catechism (1563), Westminster Larger Catechism (1647), and Westminster Shorter Catechism (1647).
ESV The Biggest Story Holy Bible for Kids TruTone (Review, Westminster Bookstore)
ESV The Biggest Story Holy Bible for Kids is a wonderful and engaging Bible to help children grow in their love for God and his word. Looking back, one of the greatest helps in my own growth in God’s Word was a study Bible for children. The Biggest Story Holy Bible for Kids has become my gold standard.
This ESV Bible has all the great tools you would want, including book introductions, maps, and a glossary. I was especially pleased to see that even in the introductions there are headshot-style illustrations and brief biographies of the main characters in each book. This may seem like a small detail, but it shows the thought and care that went into crafting a Bible specifically for kids. This is the brightest, most vibrant, beautiful Bible I have. This is my new favorite Bible, and I’m glad that it’s the one my children will grow up with.
